Federal investigators from the ATF, OSHA, and the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) have launched a joint inquiry into the explosion. The CSB, which investigates industrial accidents, has expressed concern.

Crews deployed high-capacity foam systems and elevated water streams to contain the fire within the affected unit, preventing it from spreading to adjacent processing areas. The refinery’s complex infrastructure spans over 1,100 miles of pipeline.

Flames were visible from battery containers, however no reported injuries. The battery system was taken offline, but no power outages occurred.

Sheriff Wallace issued a public safety warning following the explosion, emphasizing the extreme danger of smoking near oxygen tanks or hoses.

In response, Hyundai Motor, Kia, LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On have formed a joint task force — a rare collaboration among fierce competitors — to develop and deploy advanced safety technologies.
