A 52-year-old Danish citizen is facing charges accused of causing a major forest fire in the US state of Colorado.
The prosecution includes 141 cases of arson, one for each building destroyed in the fire. It is is not apparent in the charges if all the destroyed buildings are homes, but fire investigators have previously reported that over 130 homes were destroyed in the fire.
The 52-year-old was arrested in late June and the fire destroyed an area of nearly 450 square kilometers in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
The Danish man denies having started the fire intentionally. According to US investigators, he has claimed he was camping and thought that the camp fire he had used to cook his food on was completely extinguished.
The next day he says he saw how flames started to flare up close to the camp site.
