Lethal accidents common in Zambia copper mines: 10 dead and at least 10 injured at illegal waste extraction site today

At least 10 miners have died and 10 more were injured following a collapse at a copper mine in the town of Kitwe today.

The collapse occured at a waste site for a nearby copper mine. Illegal mines where civilians in the area earn money by extracting copper and other metals from the waste is common and similar accidents have occurred in recent years.

Zambia is Africa's second largest copper producer and base for several global mining companies.
